I am trying this again. We will see if it works this time or not.

Aprons – Y/N? When I remember, I wear one of the ones that my mom made for me.

Baking – Favorite thing to bake:I am really into baking right now. I LOVE the King Arthur Whole Wheat Baking book. As for favorites, I am not sure. I love to bake bread, I love to eat cookies, but making crackers is really fun too. . . this question is too hard.

Clothesline – Y/N? I have never tried a clothesline, but it might be fun.

Donuts – Have you ever made them? Yes. In brownies with Mrs. Rausch.

Every day – One homemaking thing you do every day: My whole life is homemaking, so this could be a pretty long list. To save from boring you, I'll shorten it. Laundry, make the beds, make a meal, clean the kitchen, laundry, make a meal, clean the kitchen, laundry, make a meal.

Freezer – Do you have a separate deep freeze?Yes. I love it.

Garbage Disposal – Y/N?Yes! Again, I love it!

Handbook – What is your favorite homemaking resource?King Arthur Whole Wheat Baking!!! And "Home Comforts" by Cheryl Mendelson.

Ironing – Love it or hate it? This is embarassing. I have an ironing basket. When it gets disgracfully over filled, my mother takes it home and everything comes back freshly pressed! She LIKES to iron (or at least that's what I tell myself) Besides, I tried to iron a shirt today and it took three hours, a bit of yelling, and multiple breaks to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and snuggle the crying (is that a work of mercy? it should be.) before I finished.

Junk drawer – Y/N? Where is it? Oh, I have to many to count.

Kitchen: Design & Decorating? I like to call it "Tuscan". It is very grapey.

Love – What is your favorite part of homemaking? My family sitting down to a fresh and yummy homemade meal.

Mop – Y/N? I used to mop a lot but than I got new flooring in the kitchen, it is kind of the color of dirt. I am not sure I have ever mopped it.

Nylons – Wash by hand or in the washing machine?wash. I don't hand wash anything. Except the kids.

Oven – Do you use the window or open the oven to check?OPen
Pizza – What do you put on yours? I really like to make pizza at home. I like cheese with different sauces and crust variations.

Quiet – What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment? Freak out. Something must be seriously wrong if it is quiet in my house.

Recipe card box – Y/N?I do!! Mary Hack gave it to me for a shower gift!!

Style of house –An "Alhambra" Sear's kit home circa 1920. I love it!
Tablecloths and napkins – Y/N?I like cloth napkins. As for tableclothes, they just get pulled off by little hands. We stick to runners.
Under the kitchen sink – Organized or toxic wasteland? Toxic wasteland. Unfortunitly, PeterXavier likes to hang out in there.

Vacuum – How many times per week? Ever since I was prego with Christopher, my husband has been the vacuumer in the house. I would say he does in once or twice a week.

Wash – How many loads of laundry do you do per week?Oh boy. Maybe eight or ten. Certainly once a day, mostly more. It depends on the number of vomits, spilled juice, and wet pants we have in a day. Ok, maybe fifteen.

X’s – Do you keep a daily list of things to do that you cross off?No

Yard – Y/N? Who does what?Andrew does that. Or doesn't might be a better way to say it.

Zzz’s – What is your last homemaking task for the day before going to bed?I would love to say I tidy the house before I go to bed, but that would be a lie. I think clean the kitchen is the true answer.

So that is it. Now you know what a rotten house keeper I am. Feel free to copy and paste to your blog -- just leave us a link in the comments! Or if you are a non-blogger, try to answer it in the comment section!

Sarah,

I posted my answers in Monica's comment section on her blog. You should so read them.... you'll feel like a super-suzy-homemaker. Because I am the total pits at it!! I have vacuumed since I posted and everyone should come see before it gets all dirty again. Margaret is carrying around a cracker as we speak dripping crumbs everywhere..... aaaa, it's the good life!!

Girls (my girls, anyway, Sarah, Annie and Anna) I will post this on all of your blogs...you cannot escape me.
I was just downstairs (sewing an apron for Annie, as a matter of fact) and got to thinking. I cannot recommend strongly enough the wearing of an apron! It is sort of the badge of our vocation.....almost like a nun's habit! When we have our apron on we are actually living out our vocation of selfless motherhood.....feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, instructing the ignorant, all that stuff. Girls, I know you remember me wearing an apron, but do you also remember that Mrs. Schafer always had her apron hanging by the door? We really didn't give it a lot of thought, but now, when I really think about it, I realize that it is really a very good witness to the way in which we view our vocations, which in some ways are the most demanding and selfless vocations of all.
Okay, that is the end of this sermon. Back to my sewing machine.....but keep in mind that St. Paul told us that the older women were to instruct the younger....and forgive me for preaching.
Love, MAMA

Aprons – Y/N? Yep, at work

Baking – Favorite thing to bake: Manicotti with lots of cheese. Does that count as baking?

Clothesline – Y/N? nope

Donuts – Have you ever made them? no

Every day – One homemaking thing you do every day: Put my dirty socks in the laundry. I don
t know what happens to the rest of them, but they always come back clean.

Freezer – Do you have a separate deep freeze? yep, stocked full of meat!

Garbage Disposal – Y/N? I am the garbage disposal.

Handbook – What is your favorite homemaking resource? I don't have one

Ironing – Love it or hate it? Hate it. I can't get it right.

Junk drawer – Y/N? Where is it? plenty.

Kitchen: Design & Decorating? italian vila. Grapes and vines.

Love – What is your favorite part of homemaking?vacuuming. Instant gratification and it doesn't take long. Plus it makes my wife happy.

Mop – Y/N? nope.

Nylons – Wash by hand or in the washing machine? I'm trying to quit my dependance on nylons.

Oven – Do you use the window or open the oven to check?OPen I like to see my food

Pizza – What do you put on yours? everything but the kitchen sink.. The more the merrier.

Quiet – What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment? watch a violent action packed movie.

Recipe card box – Y/N? A virtual one on Allrecipes.com

Style of house –Spanish Mission Style Revival. Lots of arches inside and out.

Tablecloths and napkins – Y/N?
Yes, they are on almost all tables, even on the little ones in the corner. I like it but that is Sarah's expertise.
Under the kitchen sink – Organized or toxic wasteland? It was organized until PeterXavier got the comet and dumped it everywhere, I think there is still green comet spilled under there, so now it is a toxic wasteland.

Vacuum – How many times per week?
I like to vacuum 2 times a week because it is one of the things I can do around the house and not possibly mess it up.

Laundry – How many loads of laundry do you do per week? We probably do a load a day but we like to save all the loads for the end of the week so we are not really sure.

X’s – Do you keep a daily list of things to do that you cross off?Yes, on my computer but Sarah keeps adding stuff to them so I never get them done.

Yard – Y/N? Who does what?I keep it mowed and a couple of years ago I built a brick patio so I barely have anything to mow. I will probably brick the other half this summer, yeppeeee!

Zzz’s – What is your last homemaking task for the day before going to bed?I like to pick up living room especially if the kids where playing there or watching a movie before they went to bed. I also like to clean the kitchen if it needs it. No one likes to wake up to a messy kitchen, it kind of takes the excitment out of making bacon and eggs or biscuts and gravy in the morning.

Mrs. H.,

This is a fascinating conversation. And, I am assuming since you brought mother's apron into it that your advice is for me as well (a sort of extra daughter, if you will)... My question is this- why does an apron determine whether or not we are living out our vocations? Can I not feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc. with spaghetti sauce splattered all over my goodwill shirt? It seems an arbitrary assignation of meaning. I do understand your point. An apron is a visual sign of the sacrifices a mother and wife makes. But don't you think staying at home/ having more than 1.2 children/ raising children in the Faith/ driving a minivan/ etc. are also workable badges of honor? I would like for you to exercise a spiritual work of mercy and instruct this ignorant girl!!!

M.

P.s. Sarah, thanks for the forum!

Yes, Mary, of course you can feed the hungry, etc. with sauce and spit up all over you.....but, gosh, who would want to? Smelly, smelly. You know you want me to make you an apron.
